MAKOGAI

Makogai - (Makongai) is a small island between the two main islands of Fiji.
From 1911 until 1969 it was a leper colony accepting lepers from all over the Pacific.
Run by Catholic missionaries it housed 5000 lepers during it's 58 years of operation.
It now operates as an aquaculture centre raising clams and turtles.
